Throsby Gift Relay
We have two weeks to select the Hunter Throsby Gift Relay Team. As we have had many new members in the past 12 months, we will hold sprint trials and training this Sunday (15th Nov) at 7am to select our best 5 men and 5 women. 2004 is the last time Hunter has won this unique event.
As it is only 400m in crewed boats (Mixed 2x, Mixed 4+, and Mixed 4x), age and fitness, are not pre-determining factors ... and it is a truly team event.
Please reply email to either myself (jason_nissen@yahoo.com) or Annette (Annette.Weir@studentmail.newcastle.edu.au) if you'll be racing at the CDRA Sprint Championships on 6th December, and want to be considered for the team.
Thanks
Jason Nissen
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE [Max Reed. 3.11.2009.]
HRC REGATTA
Our home regatta is scheduled for Sunday 22 November 2009. The first race starts at 8.30am. CDRA has approved changes to the usual program.
The website of NSW Rowing has the amended program and a hard copy is on the notice board. Entries close at our club at 9am on Sunday 8 November 2009.
The regatta can only run successfully with the support of our members and families.
There are a number of jobs that need to be completed well before the first race.
They include: setting out the course, erecting tents, setting up the canteen in the TASC shed, putting our racing boats on slings, preparing the chase boats, liaison with the BRO’s.
Whilst members are welcome to enter events, we also expect everyone (including competitors) to help in some way before, during and after the regatta.
I have attached the roster for the regatta. Please place your name on the hard copy on the notice board or email Anita. Please be realistic about the number of events that you enter and allow some time to help the club between events.
Colleen and Sue are in charge of the canteen and raffle.
Please leave any donations for the raffle prizes at the club’s kitchen.

CHANGES
At the last Committee Meeting, Howard Williams tendered his resignation as Vice Captain of the Club. Howard has held this office since 2007. His work as a Pharmacist has taken him to Bundaberg for a year. Howard has brought a wealth of experience and common sense to the Committee. You will recall that the Club recognised his 52 years of rowing at the last presentation night. In addition to his work on the Committee, Howard has been active with the schools rowing program. He was always available to make up a crew. I will miss him as a reliable crewman and a good friend.
The Committee has appointed Jason Nissen to replace Howard as Vice Captain. Jason is new to the Club but not to rowing. He has been active with the Balmain and Newcastle Clubs. We look forward to working with Jason and hearing his ideas. He is noted for his racing form and some edgy dance floor moves. Welcome Jason.
NEW BOATS AND OARS
The Club has taken delivery of 3 new boats from Xtreme Racing: a coxless quad/four, a stern coxed quad/four and a double/pair. They are constructed of carbon/kevlar. All of the boats have competed in the last regattas and seem to be very popular.
They will all be rigged with quick release riggers which will help with storage and trailer loading.
Croker has also supplied sculling and sweep oars for these boats. They are as new, having been used at the World Masters Games.
I am sure that all of our members will treat these boats and oars with care.
The wooden training four Fred Fullerton has been sold to the Central Coast Rowing Club with delivery on 22 November 2009.
This will mean that the Paul Hunter will be stored on a lower rack and used as a training four.
REGATTAS
The Club has attended some regattas at Berry Park recently. A number of members competed for the first time and some won their first medals. Congratulations to all winners and competitors.
Also, the Club owes its gratitude to the trailer drivers especially Louis Pirona who towed the trailer to Berry Park last Saturday even though he was not competing that day. Thanks Louis.
Max Reed. 3.11.2009.
